"EL VIAJE” - TEAMLABS/ MADRID
“CUANDO EL ARTE ENCUENTRA SU LUGAR // WHEN ART FINDS ITS PLACE”
PALACIO DE LAS ALHAJAS, MADRID - SPAIN. OCT 2024
He sido el artista elegido por TeamLabs/ para pintar un mural en su Laboratorio de Aprendizaje Radical de Madrid, ubicado en un edificio histórico datado en el 1870 (Palacio de las Alhajas), en pleno centro de la capital, en la plaza de San Martín.
La obra ha sido realizada en el Auditorio, donde durante una semana, he compartido experiencias, conversaciones y trabajo junto a los alumnos de esta universidad. En Teamlabs/ se desarrolla un grado en Liderazgo Emprendedor e Innovación (LEINN), perteneciente a la Universidad de Mondragón. Utilizan una metodología consistente en crear desde el primer día empresas y proyectos reales en equipo mientras realizan viajes por el mundo. Se trata en definitiva de un lugar muy particular, donde términos como el trabajo en equipo, el error, la repetición, la improvisación, el caos, el desorden, la prueba o el movimiento son pilares fundamentales de su día a día.
Partiendo de aquí y basándonos en la idea del estornino como un ave capaz de realizar vuelos en grandes grupos, de forma aparentemente caótica e improvisada, como si de una danza se tratase, decidimos realizar una intervención en las paredes del auditorio donde estos pájaros aparecieran por la parte posterior, entrando por las puertas y se expandieran, crecieran, aumentaran en color y contraste por todo el espacio, abrazándolo.
El proceso creativo duró 5 días completos:
“Nacer, crecer, caerse, fallar, repetir, cambiar, subir, improvisar, mezclarse... Los estorninos son aves muy particulares, que viven en grandes grupos creando una suerte de nubes formadas por cientos de ejemplares. Realizan movimientos llamados murmullos, danzas aleatorias en perfecta armonía, un trabajo en equipo impecable y difícil de comprender. Dejamos de ver las individualidades para darle valor al conjunto y al todo,
En LEINN son cientos los jóvenes que a diario caminan, entran, salen, trabajan, fallan, se tropiezan, crecen, se relacionan y crean, una y otra vez, buscando formar ese conjunto donde la simbiosis es la base. Donde el ‘yo’ pasa a un segundo plano en pro del EQUIPO, del TEAM.”

La experiencia de compartir espacio de nuevo en un centro de formación como Teamlabs/ fue ante todo enriquecedora. Tuve la oportunidad además de compartir mis procesos, mi forma de trabajar, mis ideas, opiniones, consejos y obras anteriores durante una charla mantenida junto a los alumnos en el propio auditorio, previa a mi intervención. La intención era conocernos, que supieran y entendieran por qué estaba ahí y qué era lo que pretendía crear.

“EL INTERCAMBIO” - UNIVERSIDAD COMPLUTENSE DE MADRID
“UN PROYECTO QUE AUNA ARTE Y ECONOMÍA. LA ESENCIA ECONÓMICA DERIVA DEL INTERCAMBIO INDIVIDUAL”
SOMOSAGUAS, MADRID - ESPAÑA. JULIO DE 2024
La Biblioteca de la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales de la UCM es una de las mayores bibliotecas económicas españolas. Posee una colección de más de 200.000 ejemplares monográficos. Cientos de estudiantes transitan sus pasillos, utilizan sus salas de lectura, recogen y devuelven libros, realizan trabajos en equipo, estudian y se forman a diario entre sus paredes. Es quizá uno de los edificios más importantes sobre los que he podido trabajar por todo lo que esto significa y conlleva.
EN 2015 finalicé mis estudios de Bellas Artes en esta misma Universidad y gracias a la propuesta artística de Wai Creaciones (Maria Eugenia y Guillermo), gestores y comisarios del proyecto, he tenido la oportunidad de realizar esta intervención, que recibe el título de “EL INTERCAMBIO”
En la economía, el término “intercambio” se erige como la esencia, como la idea principal. Personifica toda la compleja red de transacciones interconectadas que dan forma a esta ciencia.
Una biblioteca es ese lugar en el que alumnos, profesores y trabajadores cogen, devuelven, consultan, cambian, buscan o leen libros. Es además un lugar libre para el estudio y el trabajo, un espacio tranquilo, silencioso y particular.
Estas manos representan dicho intercambio y están situadas a ambos lados de la puerta. Unas dan, devuelve, otras reciben, recogen. Esto es además símbolo de la generosidad y de las relaciones sociales con beneficio mutuo.
En la parte superior del edificio aparece una bandada de golondrinas, situadas en posición ascendente y representadas de forma simétrica. Son aves relacionadas con la buena suerte, con la fortuna, y el buen porvenir. También representan el equilibrio mediante dicha simetría. Este es un aspecto muy importante para que el beneficio sea mutuo y la cadena pueda continuar.
La intervención fue realizada durante el mes de Julio de 2024.
Agradezco a todas las personas que lo hicieron posible, y en particular a Wai Creaciones y el personal perteneciente tanto a la Biblioteca como a la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales de la UCM. Ha sido una gran oportunidad volver a este lugar y realizar dicho mural.
GOLONDRINAS Y VENCEJOS - TORRELODONES
“UN PROYECTO DEDICADO A LA BUENA SUERTE, LA ESPERANZA Y EL CRECIMIENTO” // “A PROJECT DEDICATED TO GOOD LUCK, HOPE AND GROWTH”
TORRELODONES, MADRID - SPAIN 2024
Este edificio público perteneciente al municipio de Torrelodones, en la sierra de Madrid, ha sido rehabilitado y reformado por el Estudio U3 ARCHITECTURE.
En este caso, he realizado una intervención mural sobre la fachada interior de su particular escalera de caracol que conecta sus cuatro plantas y da paso a cada uno de sus espacios comunes y oficinas. Un lugar amplio, lleno de luces, sombras y curvas. Una pared continua, ascendente o descendente, sobre la que proyectar una pieza que discurre e identifica cada una de sus plantas, pero donde también puede apreciarse continuidad y desarrollo a lo largo de las mismas.

This public building belonging to the municipality of Torrelodones, in the mountains of Madrid, has been rehabilitated and renovated by the Studio U3 ARCHITECTURE. In this case, I have carried out a mural intervention on the interior façade of its particular spiral staircase that connects its four floors and leads to each of its common spaces and offices. A spacious place, full of light, shadows and curves. A continuous wall, ascending or descending, on which to project a piece that runs and identifies each of its floors but where a certain continuity or development can be seen throughout them.

Para el mural, seleccioné dos aves migratorias que acompañan la llegada de la primavera: Las golondrinas y los vencejos.
Son aves acrobáticas, bulliciosas y alegres que pasan por aquí el periodo estival cada año. Aves con patrones migratorios de largo alcance, que realizan viajes de miles de kilómetros. Además se encuentran en peligro de extinción, repletas de amenazas para su supervivencia debido a nuestra actual forma de vida, a los incendios y al clima tan seco de sus lugares de origen.
Son aves que representan la buena suerte, la esperanza, los cambios y el crecimiento. Quería que la obra hablara por sí sola, creciera, evolucionara y se adaptara por completo a su entorno, en este caso, a esta escalera. La pieza posee un crecimiento en cuanto a número de aves, contraste y color conforme ascendemos planta por planta, hasta terminar escapando por la azotea.

For the mural, I selected two migratory birds that accompany the arrival of spring: Swallows and swifts.
They are acrobatic, boisterous and happy birds that spend the summer period here every year. Birds with long-range migratory patterns, making trips of thousands of kilometers. They are also in danger of extinction, full of threats to their survival due to our current way of life, fires and the very dry climate of their places of origin. They are birds that represent good luck, hope, changes and growth. I wanted the work to speak for itself, grow, evolve and completely adapt to its environment, in this case, this staircase. The piece grows in terms of number of birds, contrast and color as we ascend floor by floor, until we end up escaping through the roof.
This was the process:
Comencé el proyecto en la planta baja, donde apenas se atisban las primeras aves conforme subes por la escalera. Poco a poco y piso por piso, el número de aves va apareciendo con mayor protagonismo tanto por el contraste, el número y el color. Invito así al espectador a recorrer el espacio caminando, olvidándose de utilizar el ascensor y pudiendo disfrutar de la evolución de la obra conforme asciende por las escalera.

I started the project on the ground floor, where you can barely see the first birds as you climb the stairs. Little by little and floor by floor, the number of birds appears with greater prominence due to contrast, number and color. I thus invite the viewer to walk through the space, forgetting about using the elevator and being able to enjoy the evolution of the work as it ascends the stairs.
En mi trabajo busco siempre que el espacio y la obra dialoguen, que forme un único elemento. Como si las aves estuvieran ya allí cuando se construyó el edificio, buscando integrarlas al máximo sin restar protagonismo a la arquitectura. Aquí el resultado final:

In my work I always look for the space and the work to dialogue, to form a single element. As if the birds were already there when the building was built, seeking to integrate them as much as possible without detracting from the architecture.

"ET VOILÁ, ET VOLER" - ORLEANS, FRANCE
“ About movement, the wind and letting yourself go”
LOIRe RIVER, ORLEANS - FRANCE 2023
Back again in France, more specifically in the Loiret department, south of Paris and very close to Orleans.
This time I traveled for a different kind of project and a great opportunity to work on a new format. The project was curated by UAA and consisted of the intervention of a sail from a traditional boat. A boat that would sail through the Orleans canal in Vitry-aux-Loges, a small town that celebrates every year a festival called "Escale en fete", to give value to water and life on the banks of the Loire River.
For this project I was selected together with Lemon, an artist from Marseille. We would each paint one of the boats sails during our residency. We stayed in the small canal-side town called Fay-aux-Loges. It was not the first time that I have worked on the fauna that lives on the banks of this river and for this project that was the main topic again. More specifically the birds. I selected two of them, the common tern and the black-headed gull.
The creative process lasted about 5 days. We work inside an old market located in the town itself were the sails were hanging.
Using a ship's sail as a canvas was powerful enough. My intention was to work again on the concept of movement, but this time I sought to create a result so that both the object itself, its function and the mural would dialogue. The birds moved from one side to the other, in a kind of journey, growing in number and size, flying in a flock accompanied by the wind itself, which they use to save energy, like a sailing ship does.
Using the sail cloth as a background and seeking to let light pass between the lines, I created the work. Improvisation and composition, from less to more until I found a point of balance where I finished my work, and crossing my fingers so that once hanging from the ship's mast I could become part of it without clashing too much.
I returned to Madrid for a few days until the festival took place the following weekend (16th sept), where we could finally enjoy the work done and celebrate it. The sails were to be inaugurated during Escale en fête, a festival that bids farewell to summer in the Loiret department. Everything revolves around the water of the Orleans Canal and the traditions of the area. Music, food, market, workshops and a very good atmosphere in a rural area.

It was a very special day, with a clear sky that gave us the luck to be able to see how the sun did its work and its light filtered in behind the sails of the boats.
I felt very lucky to participate, to be able to experience it and have the opportunity to be part of this project. It's one of those things that only happens once in life.

"SALIR A FAENAR" - SALADINA FEST, MALLORCA
“ UN HOMENAJE A LOS PESCADORES DE LA ISLA DE MALLORCA” // “A tribute to the fishermen of Mallorca”

En el mes de Junio viajé hasta la isla de Mallorca para participar en el festival Saladina, que se celebra desde hace varios años en Can Picafort, un pequeño pueblo originariamente pesquero en el norte de la isla. Durante el verano esta localidad recibe a más de 30.000 turistas por semana, mientras que durante el resto del año apenas es habitado por 7000 personas las cuales en su mayoría dedican su vida al mar y más concretamente a la pesca. Mi intención desde que Joan me propuso participar en el proyecto fue realizar un homenaje a todos ellos.
In the month of June I traveled to the island of Mallorca to participate in the Saladina festival, which has been held for several years in Can Picafort, a small fishing village in the north of the island. During the summer this town receives more than 30,000 tourists per week, while during the rest of the year it is barely inhabited by 7,000 people, most of whom dedicate their lives to the sea and more specifically to fishing. My intention since Joan asked me to participate in the project was to pay tribute to all of them.
Después de buscar muchas referencias, conocer algunas historias y toda la labor de documentación, la casualidad me llevó hasta Íñigo, un fotógrafo de la isla que había realizado una sesión fotográfica a dos pescadores, padre e hijo, de Puerto de Soller, que desde hacía más de 30 años dedicaban su vida al mar y a la pesca. Pep y Gori son pescadores tradicionales, un oficio en peligro de extinción por la falta de relevo generacional. Decidí realizar un retrato de Pep, el padre, tirando de las redes de pesca desde su pequeño barco.
El muro estaba situado en la fachada exterior de un hotel de 6 plantas en primera linea de playa. Azotado por el sol en las mañanas y por la tramuntana durante la tarde. Una superficie muy rugosa y algún contratiempo dilataban las jornadas de trabajo de sol a sol.
After looking for many references, knowing some stories and all the documentation work, chance led me to Íñigo, a photographer from the island who had done a photo session with two fishermen, father and son, from Puerto de Soller, who had dedicated their lives to the sea and fishing for more than 30 years. Pep and Gori are traditional fishermen, a profession in danger of extinction due to the lack of generational relief. I decided to make a portrait of Pep, his father, pulling the fishing nets from his small boat.
The wall was located on the exterior façade of a 6-story hotel on the beachfront. Battered by the sun in the morning and by the Tramuntana in the afternoon. A very rough surface and some mishap extended the working days from sunrise to sunset.
Pasaban los días entre baños al amanecer, crema solar, buenos ratos junto al resto de artistas y muchas horas subidos en la grúa. El calor era sofocante pero algunas buenas visitas familiares, de colegios y amigos me obligaban a bajarme a descansar. Pasaba la semana y se hacía complicado disfrutar de un proceso creativo que suponía alargar los días, muchas horas bajo el sol y el viento, algún percance, una linea de meta demasiado cercana y mucha ayuda. Por suerte todo terminó bien, como casi siempre, y quizá todo esto me hizo valorar mucho más el final y el esfuerzo del durante.
They spent the days between baths at dawn, sun cream, good times with the rest of the artists and many hours on the crane. The heat was suffocating but some good family, school and friends visits forced me to get off to rest. The week went by and it became difficult to enjoy a creative process that meant lengthening the days, many hours under the sun and the wind, some mishap, a finish line that was too close and a lot of help. Luckily everything ended well, as almost always, and perhaps all this made me appreciate the end and the effort of the during much more.

Podría ser este el resumen de mis largas jornadas pintando en Can Picafort durante Saladina Fest, pero es también el día a día de todos los pescadores de Mallorca que salen a faenar sin importar las condiciones. Este mural es su homenaje y en particular para Josep Mayol, fallecido en 2021,
La casualidad me acercó a él y a su familia sin saberlo y todo cobró mucho más sentido cuando me enteré de lo sucedido mientras le pintaba.

This could be the summary of my long days painting in Can Picafort during the Saladina Fest, but it is also the daily life of all the fishermen in Mallorca who go out to fish regardless of the conditions. This mural is his tribute and in particular to Josep Mayol, who died in 2021.
Chance brought me closer to him and his family without knowing it and everything made much more sense when I found out what happened while I was painting him.

"LES HABITANTS DU SILENCE"
“Just because I don't know it, don't see it or don't hear it, doesn't mean IT IS NOT HAPPENING.”
STREET ART RILLIEUX - FRANCE 2023
During the month of April I was invited by Space Junk Lyon to be part of their artistic residency project that they carry out in the city of Rillieux-La-Pape. A small town north of Lyon.
The intention of the residency was for me to work with complete freedom, taking over an uninhabited apartment in an old block of flats, which would later be shown as a gallery in guided tours until its demolition in the next month of November.
My apartment was located on the first floor. A house with five rooms and two bathrooms, some closets, several terraces and a small hole in one of its walls. The best? Its light. It entered first thing in the morning from one side and at dusk, it slipped again through the windows that faced the other side. Light walls and ceilings and a very warm atmosphere despite being completely empty. Two floors above was my house for the entire week that my residency lasted.
Despite having a pre-established idea of what my intervention would be, in my intention there was a large part of improvisation during the process, of making decisions on the fly. Something that perhaps I am not used to having so much in my work.
I thought of talking about the very fact of leaving a place and how nature resumes its path inside, as if nothing had happened. What most caught my attention during the days of my residency was the silence, or that apparent silence that occupied the entire space, only disturbed by sounds coming from outside. I started working on the first room on the left. All the rooms were connected and you could go from one to the other without repeating. Room, terrace, corridor, closet, bathroom, room, kitchen, bathroom, hole and final room. That was going to be the route of my intervention. A piece that ran through the entire apartment, which had a beginning and a supposed end.
One by one, 265 swallows fly around the 6 rooms of this uninhabited and supposedly abandoned apartment.
Leaving a place only means leaving it, nothing more.
Abandoning it is returning that space, again, to nature.
Open the door to other lives, to other species, to other rhythms.Just because a tree falls in the forest and we don't hear it, doesn't mean it hasn't fallen.
That we close a door to never open it again, does not mean that there is not someone or something, that one day will do it again.
That he inhabit that place again, that he occupy his silence and that he take advantage of it. And that after a while, close the same door again.
And so on.Nature gives in (almost always), allows us. And when we leave, he picks it up and adapts. It accepts our changes and absorbs them.
Just because I don't know it, don't see it or don't hear it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
By the way, sound comes from three motion-activated speakers.
From now on, Les habitants du silence can be visited in person until the building is demolished. Then 265 swallows will fly again, but this time in another place with the same silence.
