"A LOOK TO ANOTHER (BETTER) FUTURE"

ABOUT WOMEN, OPPORTUNITIES AND RESPECT.
POLÍGONO DE VILLAVERDE, MADRID. 2022

After many months, bureaucratic processes, papers, more papers, contracts, insurance and a lot of waiting, the opportunity came to make this mural that is part of the international urban art contest carried out by the Madrid City Council and the Foro de Empresas por Madrid in the Villaverde industrial estate, south of Madrid. A place unfortunately known for multiple social, environmental and security problems, where the trafficking and prostitution of women, drugs and violence stand out. This project aims to put an end to all the problems that are experienced daily there, bringing culture (street art, music festivals...), fixing its avenues, dismantling drug sites and increasing security among others.

My proposal for the contest revolved around the figure of women, their role in the Villaverde industrial estate and the hope for a better future. At the end of last September I was finally able to carry it out:

I know how difficult it is to talk about this from my position, but I had the opportunity and I felt that I had to do it.
Talking about the future, equality and respect is talking about women, their role in society and specifically their role in the Villaverde industrial estate. Unfortunately, it is still too common to find women exploited and forced into prostitution on its streets. For the most part young people, with their whole lives ahead of them but who have not had the opportunity they deserve.
Spaces like this must be rethought from another position and with other parameters. A polygon like Marconi must be a place of professional, safe, friendly and inclusive development for everyone and especially for them.

Nuria looks towards that future, at those new opportunities. His gaze is accompanied by a flock of swallows, birds that migrate to safer and less hostile places, symbols of hope, of new and good beginnings. I hope and wish that this project is one of the first seeds for the positive change that begins in the Villaverde Industrial Park.

It has been a pleasure to be part of this project.
Thank you very much to all those who have trusted my work to participate and especially to Urvanity Art, Ayuntamiento de Madrid and Foro de Empresas por Madrid.

Special thanks to Nuria and Claudia Herrán for the inspiration, model and photographer.
